May 4, 2012

Dear Parents and families,

Welcome to Kindergarten!   I would like to take the opportunity to introduce myself.  My name is Mrs. Murphy  and I am honored to be your child's kindergarten teacher for the 2011-12  school year.

I look forward to working with your child over the next year and helping them succeed in school. I want this to be a memorable year for your child, one filled with learning and fun. With your partnership, I know we can provide him or her with a wonderful educational experience.

Kindergarten is designed to foster the academic, social and physical development of children.  Along the way, students gather a variety of experiences by listening to stories, singing songs, writing in journals and playing learning games. They also do gymnastics, dance, design, draw and paint.  Exposure to a variety of activities help students to widen their imagination, creativity, language and math skills.
As your child becomes a member of a bigger community, they will experiment, investigate and ask questions and always find that learning can be fun!

We will start the year out building our classroom community and establishing our daily routines.  Your child will begin to recognize kindergarten as a secure and happy place to experience independence as we learn about each other and about being in school.

I will be sending home a weekly newsletter telling you of some of the activities we have been doing and upcoming events.  This information is also on my website as well as suggestions for additional ways to support your child at home.

Students will begin to keep portfolios of their work and record progress in a data notebook.  You are always welcome to visit our classroom and have your child show you their work.

I encourage you to please contact me with any questions or concerns throughout the school year. I know how busy we can get so please feel  free to e-mail me if that is easier. Remember, not only am I here for your child, but for you also!  Communication is the key factor to a successful parent-teacher relationship.

I thank you for your commitment to your child's education and look forward to working with you and your child this year!

Thank you for visiting our kindergarten website!

Please feel free to email me if you have any questions or concerns at jpmurc2@comcast.net.

   Thank you for visiting!
